Blessed by the Best

Posted by Anders Skaar - CLI Staff

Here at CLI, we are always thrilled with God's blessings! Every day, we receive new shipments of books and Bibles. Our loyal volunteers continue to come in and review Bible studies and answer correspondence and our donors continue their monthly support.

But every once in a while we receive an unusual blessing! We had been praying for an extra car to help when we all go in different directions. (That happens more often now). Last month we received an email from a young lady telling us she was led by the Lord to donate her used car to us. And here it is! We are delighted with this new addition to CLI.

God is good! All the time!

Aaron Johnson Visits CLI

Posted by Anders Skaar - CLI Staff

Today we met with our Author Dinner guest speaker, Rev. Aaron Johnson. It's always fun to get together and learn more about his background and the stories he will be telling at the dinner.

Rev. Johnson was very impressed with all the Bibles lining our walls and to learn about the ministry of CLI to the prison inmates.

We look forward to a great author dinner on October 8th. Are you coming?

A New Look

Posted by Anders Skaar - CLI Staff

In times past, women might buy a new hat for Easter or when school started, we'd buy some new clothes. Sometimes it's just fun to get "a new look".

Well, after 3-4 years with our newsletter layout, it was time for a fresh look; and here it is. The CLI newsletter has been renamed "The Shepherd". Our designer chose new colors for each of the four seasons and for the first time ever, it is being printed in color.

Inside are the wonderful testimonies we get from both the inmates and the chaplains we serve. We hope you will appreciate our NEW newsletter! We have already received many positive comments.

Thank you again for partnering with CLI! Here's a link to the Fall Newsletter.

NC set to close four prisons

NC set to close Durham prison Oct. 1

RALEIGH -- Durham Correctional Center will close on Oct. 1, the first of four minimum-security prisons to be shut as part of the legislature's plan to save nearly $11 million a year.

Also scheduled to close are Haywood Correctional Center on Nov. 1, and Cabarrus and Charlotte correctional centers on Dec. 1. Inmates will be transferred to other prisons before the closing dates.

Durham Correctional Center, built in 1925 at 3900 Guess Road, houses 216 adult male inmates and has a 42-member staff.

Keith Acree, spokesman for the Department of Correction, said the closings will eliminate 203 positions and save $10.7 million a year. The four prisons have a combined 798 inmate beds.

The department will try to transfer workers into vacant positions elsewhere. If vacancies can't be found, they'll be laid off.

The state hasn't decided what to do with the soon-to-be-vacant prison properties.

This has been a trend across the country - prisons closing - especially low-security pre-release prisons.

Please join us in prayer for those in transition - especially the chaplains we serve.

Blessed by Highland United Methodist

Posted by Jeremy Watson - CLI Staff

Highland United Methodist Church’s youth group came by Monday morning to label tracts, stamp Bibles and copies of the book Our Stories, God’s Glory: Personal Stories of God’s Touch.

We recently received 25 boxes of the book from Seed Faith Books in Oregon.

Praise the Lord!
